Woodcarving for beginners may appear difficult, but with the right tutor this enjoyable and immersive art form is attainable. Under the expert guidance of our experienced tutor Angel Nanchev this comprehensive wood carving course will equip you with the essential skills needed to complete various wood carving projects.
This extensive introductory 1 month course takes place over the course of 16 days with 4 lessons per week for four weeks. Each lesson will last 3 hours (48 hours in total).
Our course utilizes one to one tutoring. Our tutor will devote his undivided attention to meeting your goals and needs by tailoring the course to your individual strengths and weaknesses so that you can prosper at your highest potential.
Day 1:
On day 1 of this woodcarving course for beginners, we will cover how to draw a project, how to sharpen your carving tools using manual and machine methods, and the foundational techniques needed to carve wood such as how to carve geometric patterns. While working on your wood carving project we will also teach you how to hold and handle basic chisels.
Day 2:
On day 2 of this course, you will be shown how to use power tools for your woodcarving projects. Following this introduction to power tools you will start to carve the basic project you drew on day 1 to help you understand the function of each type of chisel. This will be done with the help of your tutor.
Day 3 to 7:
From day 3 to 7 we will hone your carving technique and then introduce you to more advanced chisels. Over these 3 days, you will receive valuable practice and experience with these advanced tools and accomplish various simple projects including carving a single leaf, flower, Celtic knots and geometrical figures.
Day 8 to 16:
Depending on your progress so far we will help you make a more advanced project which will include a combination of what you had learned up to now.
We will teach you all these skills at our workshop and supply all the tools and materials you need so that you leave with a strong foundation in woodcarving, projects you’re proud of, and a smile on your face.
